How to find your interior design style: for the beginner and the pro at interior design

How do you decide on which interior design style best suits your residence, office or commercial property? For some, it is as simple as looking at interior design pictures on Instagram, Pinterest, or a movie with an attractive set design. For others, it is a complex process because they like details of different designs or they do not have enough information about interior design. This article will help you find out interior design style based on your knowledge of interior design.

Knowing your interior design style helps you design and decorate your space better. A well-designed space can make you feel calm and more productive.  It can also empower you to ask the right questions to your interior designer before hiring them.

At K’wanzi Accents, many of the Interior design projects in Uganda and Rwanda have been modern and contemporary. We have also had clients interested in exploring rustic and mid-century design styles. The more exploratory you are with your interior design styles, the more value you obtain from your interior designer’s expertise.

Interior design styles grow, evolve and become popular in different seasons. Some of the newer interior design styles include Eclectic, Mediterranean, Scandinavian, Vintage, and Japandi. It is also possible to mix more than one interior design style with the help of an interior designer.

  • Beginner knowledge of interior design

If you do not know anything about interior design, finding information on your preferred design style or even how to choose an interior designer for a project can be overwhelming. We encourage you to get a consultation with an interior designer or even visit a furniture place with an interior designer.  Pinterest pins such as this can also be helpful to expose you to interior design.

Save all the pins you prefer and read the captions on them to know the styles they have. During your consultations with the designer, share photos of inspiration and ask about the interior design style of what you have shared.

  • Intermediate knowledge of interior design

As an intermediate person, you know a bit about interior design. You have done a few DIY interior design projects in your home or office. Your challenge is likely that you are not achieving the aesthetic you hoped for after bringing your furniture pieces together. Bringing good elements together to make a room beautiful takes time, an eye for design, and creativity.

How can you find your interior design style? By taking a quiz. Havenly has a great quiz you can try out. You can also keep creating vision boards for the pieces and spaces you like and reading up on the styles you gravitate toward.

  • Pro knowledge of Interior design

As a pro of interior design styles, you could be a designer yourself, an enthusiast of interior design styles, or a collector. You have experimented with different interior design styles and are bold in your choices. You might be a collector of unique furniture pieces or with an eye for good things. People in this category understand that purpose, calmness, or even status can be communicated through interior design.  They also understand the value of investment in quality pieces that can stand the test of time. We still recommend a quiz to see how your taste and interior design style have evolved and to work with an interior designer.
